How did you start writing?
I was an avid reader as a child – I would read anything I could get my hands on at the time and, in fact, when I was in the sixth grade, the school librarian called my mom to say I had managed to read every book in the school library.   I believe my love of reading led me to a love for writing and creating “stories” as I used to call them.

Why did you begin writing BDSM Novels?
Throughout my adult life, I have written stories for my husband whose job requires him to travel a great deal.  It is my special way of staying connected to him when he is gone.  The stories always have an erotic slant (after all, I am trying to keep him “company” all those lonely nights out on the road) and they grew to contain BDSM themes as we began to include certain activities in our own lives.

What is the hardest part of writing your novel?
I would say until I attended the conference last year, it would have been my lack of support as a new writer.  Until then, I had no contact with other authors, publishers, editors or beta readers. The support and education I received at the conference–and since returning–has been invaluable.  The other authors have been more than supportive and have provided me with a great deal of information as I embark on getting my first novel published.  I can’t thank each and every one of them enough.  Dr. Charley Ferrer, the founder of the conference, has been very generous with her time and knowledge.

Tell us a little about yourself and your writing works.
I am a 50-something mother/grandmother who has been married to her high school sweetheart for thirty-six years.  I am originally from Southern Indiana but now live in Florida.  I have been writing since high school but never thought I would actually share my writing with anyone other than with my husband and a few close friends.  I truly believe a woman can “come into her own” as she gets older and feel that is what happened to me.  My children are now grown and the grandchildren I quit work to take care of years ago are now in school and I was left with not knowing what I wanted to do when I “grew up”.  I had written about 150 words of a novel several years ago, but hadn’t even looked at it until last year when I suddenly wanted to know what would happen to my characters next.  Since last summer, I have completed that novel, written the first installment of a three part series and have about 100 pages of another novel complete.  All could be categorized as erotic–with light BDSM themes.  I am anxious to get my first novel published.

Where did you get your information on this lifestyle?
I would say most of my information has been through reading.  I have read numerous non-fiction works on the lifestyle written by some of the most knowledgeable authors writing on the subject.  I have attended Munches, have been to several BDSM clubs and attended the BDSM Writers Conference. Educating myself has been an important task for me this year for both professional and personal reasons.

Where would you like to see the BDSM genre head?  How will it get there?
I would like to see the BDSM genre be more accurate in the details of the lifestyle and how it is lived by those who are in it.  The only way I believe that can happen is through education.Arlee Scott is an aspiring author. She is dedicated to discovering more about the BDSM lifestyle to give it the accuracy and romance it deserves. Keep an eye out for her new story.

BWC Anthology 2015Arlee Scott writes erotic short stories, poetry and novels. From a young age she was a voracious reader. According to her elementary school librarian, by the sixth grade she had managed to read every book in the school’s library. Her great love for reading has transferred to a great love for writing.

Ms. Scott was born and raised in the mid-west and now resides in Florida. She has been married for more than 36 years to her high school sweetheart and is the mother of two and “grammy” of two. When she is not writing, she enjoys cooking for friends and family. She also enjoys travel and has had the opportunity to visit some of the most famous clothing-optional resorts in the world. One of her short stories was recently published in the newsletter of an adults-only travel agency.

She is a member of the Erotica Readers & Writers Association and will be attending the BDSM Writers Conference in New York City.
