By now you know who our BDSM Book Contest Finalists are; however, I’ll announce them once again, just to give them another shout out as we keep our fingers and toes crossed for them and wish their books are selected for the Grand Prize of a Book Contract by one of our three contest publishers: The Wild Rose Press, Decadent Publishing or Totally Bound. Our Finalists are Helena Stone, Kestra Gravier, Corrine A. Silver, Mia Koutras, Jessica Lust, and Leya Wolfgang.
As we continue our countdown to BDSM Writers Con, now just 60 days away, I wanted to answer a few questions about programing schedule.
Our Author Buddy Program get together is Wednesday, August 20 at 5:30 p.m. Veteran and novice authors only are invited to attend. Contact us for details if you haven’t already done so.
For those arriving early, we are having our “unofficial” conference Kick-off Wednesday, August 20. We’ll meet at the hotel lobby at 7:00 p.m. and head out from there. Since we want to ensure we give the restaurant a heads-up, please advise us if you plan to join us. (Everyone will be responsible for their own food and beverages.)
All workshops during the conference will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Thursday through Saturday.
Registration starts at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, August 21 and ends 11:00 a.m. Our conference book store and our Vendor, My Lady’s Toys, will be open during that time. Our Opening Ceremony starts at 11:00 a.m. We will be announcing the actual workshop dates/times by July 1st so you can plan your days.
Since we know many of you wish to explore New York City while you’re here, we didn’t want to keep you trapped in the hotel every night, so we’ve scheduled our major Reader/Author Mix & Mingle for Thursday night from 8 to 10 p.m. We’ll also announce the winners of our BDSM Book Contest during the Mix & Mingle. There’s plenty of time to head out into the New York nightlife afterward and walk around Time Square or take in other attractions in the city that never sleeps.
Our theme for Thursday’s Mix & Mingle is BDSM Characters. Therefore, dress as your favorite BDSM character or well-known personalities such as the Marques de Sade, Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, Pauline Reage, Anais Nin and others. Whether it’s your own book character, that of your favorite author’s or just your lovely kinky self, this is a great opportunity to put on your leather or PVC, grab your favorite toy and enjoy a few cocktails with us. If you don’t have any leather or D/s outfits or toys, not to worry, My Lady’s Toys—our Conference vendor, will have several for you to choose from.
Friday night it’s free time. Enjoy a Broadway show, check out a few local pubs, take in the view from the Empire State Building (it’s open till 2:00 a.m.). Feel free to get wild and crazy and explore New York City however you wish. Don’t worry, we’ve already alerted the Major. Smiles.
Saturday night we’ll be heading out to our Private BDSM Party where you’ll have another chance to dress in your favorite leather outfit. No, taking pictures is not allowed! However, if you wish a discreet shot of yourself or your partner tied to a Cross, let us know and we’ll see what we can arrange. Our night out starts at 10 p.m. and goes until you’re ready to go home. Most parties last till 4:00 a.m. I’ll admit, I turn into a pumpkin by midnight…well maybe 1:00 a.m. Not to worry about staying out late, we’ve purposely scheduled our Closing Ceremony on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. so you can sleep in then come say goodbye and share a little about your experience.
Sunday is our Closing Ceremony from 11:00 to Noon followed immediately by our BDSM Book Fair & Naughty Whispers Book Reading which is open to the public. Be sure to invite all your fans and friends for this event. They could win prizes including a weekend getaway at Caliente Resorts in Florida, a Snake Whip from Master Craftsmen Victor Tella, or quality metal cuffs or collars from Dungeon Delights.
Please note: all conference activities are closed to individuals that are NOT registered for the conference. This includes Mix & Mingles and especially our Private BDSM Club Night. This is not your average conference. We are building a safe haven where participants can feel free to explore and interact with others in a “lifestyle” and topic that is considered taboo and is highly discriminated against. Many are exploring and educating themselves on BDSM for the first time whether as readers or writers. Please help us create this safe environment for all our participants!
The only events non-registered participants can attend are Wednesday’s kick-off and Sunday’s BDSM Book Fair & Naughty Whispers.
