Check out what she had to say about BDSM, writing, and more…

Why did you begin writing BDSM novels?
After reading my first BDSM themed novel, I was fascinated by the amount of trust and communication required for this type of lifestyle and I wanted to explore that in my writing.

Where did you get your information on this lifestyle?
I now have six BDSM novels under my belt so there are some things I’ve picked up on and learned along the way, but I still run all of my scenes by a Dom who has been livinSherri Hayes, BDSM Writers Con, kink romance, Charley Ferrerg the lifestyle with his wife for the past 20+ years.

Do you conduct any advocacy work in this lifestyle or is it strictly fiction base for you? If so, what?
It is strictly fiction based for me, however, I like to think that in my writing I am opening some eyes to the fact that BDSM is much more than just kinky sex. My stories tend to focus more on the characters and the emotional aspects of the lifestyle.

Where would you like to see the BDSM genre head? How will it get there?
I would love to see the BDSM genre continue to grow and expand. There are so many aspects of BDSM…different dynamics to explore. There are still too many people out there that see BDSM as something that is solely about controlling and hurting weak women. Fiction writers are in a unique position to tell a story and shed light on the lifestyle in a way that shows that isn’t the case.

Tell us a little about yourself and your writing works.
I’ve been writing for about nine years now and I write both mainstream contemporary and BDSM. I’m what they call a pantser. I write by the seat of my pants, as it were. My characters are what push the story forward. I often don’t see what’s coming much before I type the words and I like it that way.

BDSM Writers Con, Sherri Hayes, Charley FerrerAbout the author:
Sherri spent most of her childhood detesting English class. It was one of her least favorite subjects because she never seemed to fit into the standard mold. She wasn’t good at spelling, or following grammar rules, and outlines made her head spin. For that reason, Sherri never imagined becoming an author.

At the age of thirty, all of that changed. After getting frustrated with the direction a television show was taking two of its characters, Sherri decided to try her hand at writing an alternate ending, and give the characters their happily ever after. By the time the story finished, it was one of the top ten read stories on the site, and her readers were encouraging her to write more.

Since then Sherri has published several novels, many of which have hit the top 100 in their category on Amazon. Writing has become a creative outlet that allows her to explore a wide range of emotions, while having fun taking her characters through all the twists and turns she can create.
