Lori King

Speaks out

Do you participate in D/s activities or merely write about them?
I’ve been in the lifestyle in one way or another for more than seventeen years, and my husband and I enjoy our own private relationship in which the D/s lifestyle plays a large roll.

What does being nominated for the Golden Flogger Award mean to you?
It’s humbling to be nominated alongside so many of my author inspirations, and it’s validating to know that I’m portraying the lifestyle in a positive way.

Where would you like to see the BDSM genre head? How will it get thereLori king?
Ultimately I would like it to become a societal norm, and no longer be looked down upon. Do I think we’re anywhere near that goal? No, but we’re making headway. I think the more authors there are writing BDSM in a clearly positive way, the more likely it is that a random reader will get correct information rather than being inundated with untruths.

What is the hardest part of writing your novel?
Putting myself in the mindset of a female dominant. Women think and experience things differently than men. Generally they’re more emotionally reactive to circumstances, and I wanted my character to accurately portray a woman first, and a Domme second. Just like all of us, her lifestyle choices don’t completely define her, and I need to ensure that she had a vulnerable side. I hope I pulled that off.

Tell us a little about yourself and your writing works.
I always start by saying that I’m a mom and wife first, and an author second. I worked in the financial industry for years before indulging in my dream to write a book. Sending it to a publisher was a monumental feat of courage as well as a turning point in my life. I’m now a full-time author with 15+ books written and published ranging in genre from BDSM to Western to Paranormal. When I write I let the characters use me as their microphone. I don’t attempt to lead the story in any way, and if I do they tend to stop talking. I don’t use outlines, because I rarely know the end of the story before I get there, and I am inspired constantly by the things around me. I currently have 100+ stories in various stages of completion, so hopefully my creative well will never run dry.

Best-selling author, Lori King, is also a full-time wife and mother of three boys. Although she rarely has time to just enjoy feminine pursuits; at heart she is a hopeless romantic. She spends her days dreaming up Alpha men, and her nights telling their stories. An admitted TV and book junkie, she can be found relaxing with a steamy story, or binging in an entire season of some show online. She gives her parents all the credit for her unique sense of humor and acceptance of all forms of love. There are no two loves alike, but you can love more than one with your whole heart.

With the motto: Live, Laugh, and Love like today is your only chance, she will continue to write as long as you continue to read. Thank you for taking the time to indulge in a good Happily Ever After with her.
