Why did you begin writing BDSM novels?
I’m fairly new to the genre so have to confess I haven’t yet written a full-length novel (and the thought of trying to control so many words is scary!). To date, I’ve only written short stories. I started because I love fiction and I’m fascinated by people and relationships. Whenever I toyed around with ideas for a story, my imagination would invariably drift towards the bedroom. I think BDSM can be a very complex and multi-layered activity and it’s fertile ground for exploring and deepening both characters and relationships. It’s also enormous fun!

Do you participate in D/s activities or merely write about them?
While I can’t claim to be 100% vanilla IRL (is anyone anymore?!), I’m mainly a writer of kinky romance. I love visiting places in my head that in practice might make me anxious or that might not live up to my expectations. I write on the light, humorous side of BDSM fiction and I particularly love writing about spanking!

What does being nominated for the Golden Flogger Award mean to you?
I keep pinching myself! It’s an amazing honour! I’m actually a contributor to a spanking anthology, Over the Knee, featuring five other authors, all of whom are far more established, popular and prolific than I am. I feel as if I’ve snuck into a party without an invite. But dammit, I’m going to wear my best dress, flaunt it, and act as if I belong!

Where would you like to see the BDSM genre head? How will it get there?
Already there is such a huge range of BDSM fiction, featuring anything from shapeshifting gay Dom steampunk detectives to married couples wanting to spice up their love life. Some fiction explores the BDSM lifestyle while other books portray kink woven into more everyday scenarios. I hope that variety continues to flourish so there’s something available for everyone. And I think that happens when you have great, imaginative publishers such as my own, Totally Bound, who aren’t simply publishing FSOG-style books as many of the bigger publishers do. They’re not in it to make a fast buck. Totally Bound genuinely love and believe in the genre they publish, and it shows. I’m very proud to be writing for them.

Tell us a little about yourself and your writing works.
As I mentioned earlier, I’m something of a newbie so only have a few titles to my name. I’m a fairly ordinary mother of two kids who has always loved reading. It seemed natural for me to try my hand at writing. Now the kids are a little older, I’ve finally been able to find the time to take that idea more seriously. I’ve written three short, erotic romances, all centering on women who are new to spanking. In 2016, my first MM story will be published. It’s sort of based on the poet, Lord Byron, and is called ‘Mad, Bad and Dangerous to Blow’. I had heaps of fun writing it!

A little about Dolly Watt:
Dolly Watt lives in rural Sussex with her handsome husband, their two kids, and a growing menagerie of pets in a house she describes as ‘shabby chic’ in the hope of convincing herself it doesn’t resemble an explosion at a jumble sale. Dolly loves writing character-driven erotic romance with a side order of kink and laughter.
