Why did you begin writing BDSM Erotica?
I have been writing erotic poetry and short stories for over 10 years and recently published the first of several collections of my work thus far. I started posting my writing on some social media websites and when it received some interest I was inspired to write more. I am active in the BDSM lifestyle and much of what I write is from my own experiences.

I tend to write about the emotional/mental connection between two people. The psychological aspect of BDSM is what drew me into the lifestyle originally, and I place a lot of value on getting into the head-space of a partner. There is so much communication that must take place and when I write I want to share that experience with the reader.

Do you participate in D/s activities or merely write about them?
Some writers do research to create their vision. I use my own experiences which I hope lends to a more engaged view for the reader.

Where did you get your information on this lifestyle?
As so many have said before me, the lifestyle isn’t just about pain and punishment. For me it is a living dynamic that grows and evolves. As a Dominant I feel my responsibility to a submissive or a play partner who I am topping is a gift of trust.

For the reader who may not be familiar with my writing style or BDSM, my goal is to paint a mental image that draws them in and contains feelings and experiences they are already familiar with. Something they can build on because it already exists in their mind.

What does being nominated for the Golden Flogger Award mean to you?
I consider being nominated for this award quite an honor. It is rewarding to know that my writing can touch the minds and hearts of so many readers.

A little about the author, HL37:
HL37 writes erotic poetry and short stories that capture the BDSM lifestyle as seen through his eyes. When he is not pushing words around with a pen, he can be found making whips, riding his motorcycle affectionately known as “the big red bitch” and planning his next tattoo.

He has been writing erotic poetry and short stories for over 10 years and recently published the first of several collections of his work thus far. Being active in the BDSM lifestyle allows HL37 to draw from his own experiences, which are a balance of mental and physical play.

BDSM is more than just hitting or punishment for HL37; it is about communication of needs, listening to the person he is with in that moment, and pushing them to grow and experience things they never imagined they were capable of. HL37’s goal is to relay this to the reader in a way that they can make it a personal experience of their own.
