Erzabet Bishop
Golden Flogger Award Nominee 2016

Why did you begin writing BDSM novels?
The exploration of power exchanges has fascinated me since I read Topping from Below and Panic Snap as a young woman. The covers drew me and the story sucked me into a world I never knew existed. I wanted to capture the essence of that world. To bring the reader to that special place where you hold your breath and get that little tingle and just sigh…

Where did you get your information on this lifestyle?
I research like a fiend. Online is a vast sea of resources, but you also have to make sure you are in the right place. I also have an extensive library on the various forms of BDSM and talk to people in the know. It’s important to find out as much as you can about something before you write.

What does being nominated for the Golden Flogger Award mean to you?
It means I have reached a new level in my very short writing career. The Golden Flogger is a prestigious award and to be considered is a dream come true.

Where would you like to see the BDSM genre head? How will it get there?
I want to see more stories of females in a leading role. Not just the studded up boots and the tight latex wear, but real human beings struggling with their lives and finding love in a way that makes sense for them.Erzabet bishop

One other thing I want to see explored more is the aspect of trust within the power exchange. That is an important part of a safe, sane and consensual relationship and I think that needs to be brought into play more.

What is the hardest part of writing your novel?
This novel touched on some abuse aspects where BDSM was misused by someone who tried to act the part but clearly did not understand what it meant to be a Dom. That part was hard to write and I deliberately did not lay out the abuse blow by blow due to trigger issues of my own. Writing can help you slay demons and but I also didn’t want to turn off readers of a romance with the nitty gritty horror of what can happen when things go wrong. My intention with this novella was to illustrate how the kiss of a cane can be heaven or hell depending on who is wielding it and that love and trust in the end will be the thing that sets you free.

Tell us a little about yourself and your writing works.
I’ve been writing since I could remember but it has only been in the last three years that I’ve gotten published in the erotic romance genre and turned what was just an idle interest into a second career. In my day to day life, I am a bookstore manager so I am surrounded by books and people. It could not be a better combination for writing fodder. I have been published in several anthologies and standalone novellas. While most of my work has been in the m/f and f/f pairings, I am branching off into ménage romance in the contemporary erotic romance and paranormal romance categories. A great deal of my work has light BDSM elements with more works to come in the very near future.
