Meet Alexis Abbott
Golden Flogger Award Nominee

Why did you begin writing BDSM novels?
I really like exploring power dynamics and trust within a relationship. BDSM tends to touch all my books in one way or another.

Do you participate in D/s activities or merely write about them?
My partner and I do explore some fun roleplay in the bedroom, but we’re not really into the ‘scene’ these days. That’s something we explored more fully in the past. Now it’s something blended into our day to day life more naturally. After over 16 years together, we definitely have the trust and the passion down.

What does being nominated for the Golden Flogger Award mean to you?
I’m so thrilled! Just being recognized as someone worthy of note is… beyond anything I ever dreamed of. I never thought I’d really be an author, so to know that not only have I made it, but that people are responding to my stories… that means the world to me!

Do you conduct any advocacy work in this lifestyle or is it strictly fiction base for you? If so, what?
I do provide some sex positive advocacy and I volunteer my time with a local women’s organization to promote healthy, respectful, and consenting sex, no matter what! I’m heavily involved in sex worker advocacy especially.

Where would you like to see the BDSM genre head? How will it get there?
I’d like for it to move into a bit more authentic and honest depictions. I feel like there’s still problems with abuse in the genre, and dominance being thought of as being a disrespectful asshole rather than someone who cares for his submissive.

What is the hardest part of writing your novel?
I always struggle with the slow burn. I just get so excited, I want them to jump into bed right away! But I really, really appreciate the slow burn as well, so I do my best to make sure it lasts.

Tell us a little about yourself and your writing works.
Well, I’m Alexis Abbott, a Wall Street Journal & USA Today Bestselling author. I write about bad boys with a heart of gold, and I love passionate, steamy, explicit stories. Owned by the Hitman is the first in the hitmen series, which is a set of 7 standalone stories set in the same universe. My newest novel, Bound for Life, is the first book in a brand new Trilogy, and I can’t wait to see how fans respond to that!

Will you be attending BDSM Writers Con or other events we can meet you at?
Unfortunately I don’t have any conventions on my schedule yet! I’m in Newfoundland, Canada, so traveling is pretty expensive and inconvenient, especially since my husband and I would be attending together. But I’m hoping that 2018 might be more feasible.
