It was a thrill to meet Gray Dixon during BDSM for Writers 3-Day Intensive Workshop in New York City August 2013. Her dedication to expanding her knowledge of Dominance and submission makes me want to run out and buy all her BDSM books. Now I just have to convince her to write a few Dominant woman/submissive male book just as hot and sexy as what she’s written to date. *hint hint*
Thank you for featuring me today.
All right, here’s the skinny on me. Gray Dixon is my nom de plume, my pen name for the erotica—hot, sexy stories for the adult crowd—I write. I love walks along the beach at sunset, a glass of wine over a romantic dinner and a night of love.
Okay, that sounded like something I’d write in one of my books. On the serious side, I’m married to my Dear Heart for many years, have the 2.1 children according to statistics, a dog or two (depends on how I feel when I visit the pet rescue center), a couple of fish (they’re easy to take care of), a big yard with lots of fruit trees (I like organic gardening), two cars and a house (both two much to take care of when I want to write). Overall, I like a lot of different things—crafting, watching the History Channel, reality shows (not all, but some), travel, and writing. I have a few skeletons in my closet, but I’ll never tell. I’ve worked hard all my life in many interesting career paths and enjoyed all of them. Writing and getting published, however, has topped all my previous endeavors. I love creating new worlds and living in them for a brief time before moving on to the next one.
I don’t have a day job (gave it up years ago) and I laugh at my own jokes because I have a weird sense of humor. I like to add that weirdness to my stories too. Oh, and I write BDSM stories.
I began writing about four years ago and started with quite by accident—vampires. Now, if you knew me you’d know I don’t like creepy, horror like creatures. I’m a quiet, very introverted type who doesn’t like all those scary things. Husband does! My exposure to the genre sort of rubbed off I guess, but I wanted mine to be a little edgy, dark, scary but sexy too. I gave them a BDSM lifestyle. When the idea for a more contemporary story line came to mind, it was then I made the decision to use a pen name to keep the vampire world separate. This new contemporary series allowed me to explore the realism of the lifestyle in my writing, where the vampire world didn’t.
So began the my personal journey into writing the Masters of Tabu series, seven books with seven men in search of finding balance and joy in their lives. The fourth of seven contracted, Master Marshal, released on November 20. I finished the first three before attending the BDSM Writers Conference this past August. Although the three books have thus far been well-received, I see how I could’ve made them stronger and more polished. The last three and even the vampire stories will reflect my new knowledge. What I learned and experienced at the conference was fantastic, extraordinary, enlightening and I’d highly recommend any writer or reader interested in learning more to make plans to attend.
Dr. Charley’s presentation during the intensive three-day workshop made such an impression with me, and I didn’t hesitate to sign-up for the 2014 Conference! At a recent reader/author conference in New Orleans, I even expounded the virtues of the event. I talked another author into attending! She has the information, so let’s hope she decides to join the fun.
Segueing into my recent release, during one of the visits to Paddles in New York City, the oldest dungeon, I watched the rope suspension and was absolutely mesmerized. The sensuality of the scenes inspired me to write a scene in Master Marshal. I hope I did it justice. I couldn’t have done it without attending the workshop, so thank you Dr. Charley. All my characters have bits and pieces of me in them and I hope I did a good job of describing the scene.
I learned a long time ago, people’s lives change daily, and I must say, taking this journey to write BDSM stories has been a life-changing experience.
