Featured Author and winner of our 2014
BDSM Writers Con book contest, Corrine A. Silver speaks out and shares some of her insights and experiences
What got you interested in writing BDSM?
I think, like many people who happen to be kinky, I had really mixed feelings about 50 Shades of Grey. I was excited that something that related to that part of my life was gaining mainstream interest and commercial viability, but I didn’t recognize any of the characters from the world that I knew really existed. So it prompted me to write something full of characters that I recognized.
I had questions I wanted to answer for myself. What does a Dom do after a scene goes terribly wrong. How do they ever get the nerve to play again? On the other side of things, how does a woman reconcile being a feminist and a submissive? The answers to those questions became the basis for my novel, Wrecked.
What resources or research, if any, have you done into BDSM to make your stories realistic?
I have read a ton of fiction…which may or may not be helpful at all because it is by its very nature not real. I do think that it has given me a lot of ideas to pursue. I’m also on FetLife, which is a fascinating place to see so many differing viewpoints on the full spectrum of human sexuality and practice.
However, I attended BDSM Writers Con last year, and that has made an indelible mark on my writing. It was fantastic, full of experts with amazing information and insights. I loved it!
Why have you chosen to attend BDSM Writers Con?
Last year, I was awarded the Book Contest Finalist Prize of a contract to publish my novel with Totally Bound Publishing. That was the icing on the cake! I planned on attending last year because I wanted to learn more, meet people in the publishing industry and expand my horizons. To say I had a good time is a monumental understatement. I had a phenomenal time.
This year, I’m going because I know what to expect…and there’s no way in hell I’d miss it!
