Special Invitation from New York Times Bestselling Author Angela Knight
I’ve used themes of bondage and submission in my work since the publication of my first erotic romance in 1995. Since then, I’ve written more than 20 novels and another thirty or so eBooks and novellas, most of which included BDSM themes.
But there’s more to writing about D/s than a kinky imagination and reading Screw the Roses, Send me the Thorns.
That’s why I’m so excited to announce I’ll be the keynote speaker for the 2018 New York BDSM Writers Con August 16-19. This conference gives writers the opportunity to learn from people deeply involved in the lifestyle. Events will include writing workshops and live demonstrations on everything from Erotic Rope Bondage (aka Shibari) to impact play. There’ll even be a demo of how to use a violet wand — electrical play. I live in the buckle of the Bible Belt, and I can confidently say I won’t be able to experience anything like the BDSM Writers Con in my home town.
One of the challenges of writing Dominance and submission is how to create scenes that engage the reader’s imagination, yet which have the ring of truth. I’m looking forward to meeting the expert D/s presenters to find out how they create incredible erotic experiences for themselves and their partners.
Talking to people who participate in the BDSM lifestyle inspires my imagination and helps me create characters with greater depth and believability. I need to know what a violet wand looks like, how it sounds, and how it feels if I mean to write scenes incorporating one.
I find exploring new play exciting – and when I get excited, it’s much easier to capture my readers’ imagination.
Writing success is built on drawing readers in and giving them a fabulous fictional experience. Every book you write with that kind of depth builds your readership, because your readers will want more. Far too many writers don’t go the extra mile. When you do, you give yourself a real advantage in the crowded field of publishing.
There’ll also be classes on the techniques of writing D/s with heat and imagination featuring characters who are believable as well as sexy. I’m going to be offering a presentation on the process of creating a BDSM romance from brainstorming the concept, and writing and revising the manuscript to create a clean, professional book you can be proud of.
And I’m just one of the authors who’ll be offering classes.
I’m looking forward to learning a great deal from my fellow authors. Then too, I’m excited at the chance to meet other authors in the erotic romance genre. Writing’s a lonely business, and it’s important to network. Nobody can understand the challenges of being a writer like another writer.
I’m looking forward to meeting all the readers and writers who enjoy exploring their BDSM dreams.
Sincerely, Angela Knight
