Shayla Black
Golden Flogger Award Nominee
Speaks Out
Why did you begin writing BDSM novels?
My intent has largely been to write books about women exploring and empowering their sexuality. BDSM happened to play a huge role because I believe trust, communication, and honesty are paramount in a good relationships, but my message has always been to embrace who you are. It works well with the character-driven ways I like to tell stories.
Wat does being nominated for a Golden Flogger mean to you?
It’s a thrill to be nominated for an award by the BDSM fiction community. Anytime such discerning readers select one of my books as a good representation of the lifestyle, I’m thrilled and honored. To be selected among such a fabulous group of my peers feels incredible.
Where would you like to see the BDSM genre head? How will it get there?
That’s a great question. I’d like to see people continue to delve into the psychological aspects and explore what draws people to it, as well as how they can grow as individuals and couples into and through it.
Tell us a little about yourself and your writing works.
Besides writing the Wicked Lovers series, for which my eighth novel in the series, Theirs to Cherish, is nominated. I also write two other series with BDSM elements: Masters of Ménage (with Lexi Blake) and the Doms of Her Life (with Jenna Jacob and Isabella LaPearl).
