Golden Flogger Award Nominee 2017
for her book, Goddess

Why did you begin writing BDSM novels?
As I read Fifty Shades of Grey, I was dismayed by the vast amounts of misinformation contained within its pages.  Portrayal of those that practice the lifestyle to mainstream readers as someone who clearly must be “fifty shades of f#@cked up” to be into BDSM, it became my mission to set that straight and dispel some of those myths.  In addition, I wanted to write something completely different.  Most of the books I read, the man is the dominant character both in and out of the bedroom.  As I know from personal experience, this is not always the case.  My BDSM writing will break that mold, set forth a different and significant path for my readers, empower my female readers and present outcomes that are more true to life.

Do you participate in D/s activities or merely write about them?
Once upon a time, I practiced as a Domme-switch.  I preferred the power and control as a Domme, but occasionally would like a little smack on the behind or hair pull during sex.  I was educated by experienced men and women, both submissive and dominating, and carried my torch for a few years.  My questions were endless, they were patient.  If I was confused about a practice or a particular behavior, I asked.  I learned by demonstration and by feeling the pain myself.  It was only proper.  This is how I am able to write the scenes with more meaning and explanation as opposed to just putting it out there in everyone’s face.

What does being nominated for the Golden Flogger Award mean to you?
Receiving the Golden Flogger Award would mean the world to me.  It would mean that my writing represents the “lifestyle” more accurately and appropriately than the others and that my readers can take away from my book more than just a juicy sex scene with a kinky edge.  They will come away from reading Goddess with more knowledge and insight into a world considered dark and mysterious to most.  I look forward to seeing my name on the finalist list this July!

R.J. Castille, BDSM Writers Con, Charley Ferrer, bondage What is the hardest part of writing your novel?
Writing this particular genre is difficult in general, however, it is even more difficult to present the material in a manner that is not overly offensive.  I wanted to ride the line between the Fifty Shades of Grey and the Claiming of Sleeping Beauty and feel that Goddess has been successful in doing so.  I adhered to traditional Romance Novel language and rarely used offensive language in order to cater to a more broad audience.  That is difficult to do in this particular genre but with good writing skills and finesse, I can attest, it is entirely possible.

Tell us a little about yourself and your writing works.
I have been writing since I was in grade school and have always enjoyed sharing my creative mind with others.  As I got older, I expanded my stories to include those with a sexy edge which sometimes got me into trouble with the school authorities, although my peers greatly enjoyed them.  I had several poems and articles published when I was in High School in the school newspaper and as part of the Young Author’s program.  I continued to write throughout college, but it got away from me when I married and had children.  A few years ago, my mother came to me and prompted me to write again.  She insisted if these other women with half the writing ability as me could sell millions of copies all over the world, I can too.  It took me some time, but once I got into the swing of things, I was on a roll.  Ideas flowed.  Words formed and before I knew it, I had 82,000 words down.  I am currently working on the second book in the Goddess series.  I need to finish Leila’s story before I move on to the treasure trove of ideas locked inside my mind.

Will you be attending BDSM Writers Con or other events we can meet you at?
I would love to attend the BDSM Writers Con!  Unfortunately, although the registration fee is quite reasonable, I would not be able to swing the air fair or lodging costs to get from California to New York.  It would be wonderful to meet like-minded authors and trade thoughts and ideas and hear the wonderful speakers you have lined up.
