BDSM Writers Con Featured Author and Golden Flogger Award Nominee
Why did you begin writing BDSM novels?
I really don’t know why or how, the first book I wrote naturally gravitated to putting elements into the storyline. I’d never read any books that would’ve influenced me to do so. Like I said, it flowed naturally and then I wanted to add to all my stories. Not all have BDSM elements, but the majority does.
What does being nominated for the Golden Flogger Award mean to you?
Shock! No, really. I was encouraged to nominate, but I was hesitant. I’m still a bit shy about the reviews I get and feedback from readers is always good, but I’m still unsure if it is good enough to enter any competitions. So, to be nominated with two books is astonishing and humbling to say the least. I may not win anything, but when you hear actors make comments about being nominated is an honor to be with other great actors for an Oscar or Golden Globe, etc. now I know what they mean. It truly is an honor to be among such inspiring and excellent authors in this genre.
What is the hardest part of writing your novel?
The hardest part is sometimes getting started and staying on track. My mind is constantly coming up with new stories and I want to put them down before I forget–age is creeping in and I tend to forget sometimes. *grin*
Tell us a little about yourself and your writing works.
Just a little? I’ll let my bio (attached) take care of that part and I’ll get into my writing. I began in the spring of 2009 after “retiring” from my day job. My husband had retired six months before and he dove headfirst into writing again. He’d been writing since a young man and stopped due to his job in the military and federal government. I read his stories and thought I could write a little something since I had nothing else to do except my jewelry and other crafts. I’ve always done something creative, my mind and hands work that way. So, my first story wasn’t the best, but it got me going. I was hooked. The first real story worth anything was about vampires, but not just any kind of vampire. He liked to “play”. What else would someone who lived over 700 years and seen and done anything he wanted do? Well, it took off from there. Twenty novels, short stories, novellas later, I’m still plugging away.
Will you be attending BDSM Writers Con or another event we can meet you at?
Absolutely! This will be my third time attending, second for the Con. I will also be an author at the Bondage Expo Dallas April 24-26, 2015 signing and mingling. I’ve added another event in New Orleans, Louisiana for July 31-August 1st, 2015. That one is a mixed genre, but I never pass up a chance to go to NOLA!
What are you working on now?
I’m working on the sixth book in the Masters of Tabu Series. I’m also re-editing and polishing up several others that I received back from being previously published. New covers and content, like new books. I’m also working on a futuristic story inspired from last year’s BDSM Writers Con that I’m excited about getting done for next year. There are several others I’ve started, but will take a backseat to the others already mentioned.
I heard you attended the inaugural BDSM Writers Con 2014 in New York City. What was it like?
Phenomenal, exhilarating, educational. I enjoyed the small group the year before and enough to immediately sign up for 2014! Although last year’s full-blown conference wasn’t as intimate, it offered more in the educational department and the opportunity to network with readers as well as authors and guests on the panels. The friendly and happy atmosphere made me wish it didn’t have to end after a few days. There’s nothing like first-hand experience to inspire, validate and educate my writing. I can’t wait for 2015 to take me further into my journey!
What’s your latest (upcoming) book about?
Master Squire is book 6 in the Masters of Tabu Series. It is about Jagger Squire, the security manager at Club Tabu, and he’s having a really bad day, no make that a couple of weeks after he rescues a beaten man left for dead in the alleyway behind the club. Turns out there’s more saving he has to do when he discovers the man is a doctor in need of more saving.
If you could try any BDSM activity or equipment, what would it be?
Anything rope–bondage, suspension, etc.
Don’t forget to sign-up for our conference Newsletter on the right and receive a FREE ebook or any number of other giveaways we have going on that day. And if you register for BDSM Writers Con, you’ll be entered to win a 4-day/3-night vacation to Caliente Resorts in sunny Tampa, Florida. Winner will be announced February 16th.
What a fantastic interview, Gray. Thanks for sharing.
