Golden Flogger Award Nominee 2015
and BDSM Writers Con Featured Author Cris Anson speaks out about writing BDSM novels and more…

Why did you begin writing BDSM novels?

I didn’t know it at the time, but I began writing BDSM novels with my first erotic romance, DANCE OF THE SEVEN VEILS, which Ellora’s Cave published in January 2005 (it’s still available). I had this vision and I set it in a “sex club” because I didn’t know there were things like dungeons. Here’s the first line of that book: “And remember, if you see a naked man handcuffed to a ring in the ceiling, it’s because he wants to be there.” Since then I’ve actually seen such a sight, and many others I had previously pulled out of my imagination and onto the page. It was liberating to know that I wasn’t a dirty freak. Er, that I wasn’t the only dirty freak in the world 🙂 LOL.

What does being nominated for the Golden Flogger Award mean to you?
I’m thrilled to know that someone thinks enough of my work to nominate REDEMPTION AND GLORY. This book came about as a direct result of all the things I’ve experienced since my introduction into the kinky world of BDSM and I’m extremely proud of this book.

Will you be attending BDSM Writers Con or another event we can meet you at? Cris Anson, BDSM Writers Con, bondage, kink, fetishes
You bet I’ll be there! I was one of the inaugural authors in 2012 when Dr. Charley Ferrer offered the first “BDSM Writers Workshop Weekend”. What an eye-opener for me! I attended the second Workshop in 2013 and at the 2014 BDSM Writers Con I was one of the presenting authors. So yes, in 2015 I’ll be looking forward to seeing all the friends I made last year and making new ones.

What are you working on now?
I’m still gathering information (and still dithering) about a Femme Dom story. I think my mental block is because I grew up in such a male-dominated household. My dad’s word was law. I wasn’t supposed to go to college because only my brother (who was younger than me) could go. Because women only went to college to get an MRS degree. Plus, I think romance readers by and large expect the male to be the alpha. So I’m trying to assimilate the submissive male mentality in order to do justice to his story.

Do you practice what you write about with your partner?
*sigh* If I had a partner, I’d be trying and practicing everything! But I’m finding it difficult to meet men in my age (ageless?) bracket who still have the vitality and stamina for some of the things I’m eager to do and try…and who are available for a relationship rather than just pick-up play.

CrisAnson, BDSM Writers Con, bondage, spanking, erotica, Charley Ferrer I write erotic romance because I firmly believe that life doesn’t stop at the bedroom door. I had a deeply romantic relationship with my husband, and I want to celebrate his memory in my writing. After he died, it took me a long time to come out of my grief, but parts of him — his honor, courage, optimism, tenacity, and lust for life — live on in all my heroes.

And I write erotic romance because I feel you’re never too old to give or receive love. In fact, in my latest book, AARON’S JEWEL, both hero and heroine are over fifty, and although they have real-life problems (arthritis, grown children, needy parents), they still manage to find love in the dungeon. As well, several of my stories have older heroines who dazzle younger men, and I wouldn’t mind being such a heroine in real life.

Recently I’ve been immersing myself in research into BDSM and my newer works delve deeply into the lifestyle. I’ve also been writing about my personal observations and experiences in the “Scene” so be sure to check my blog occasionally.
